Archivists lamp with vellum shade
INSPIRED BY the task lamps patented by John Dugdill & Co. that revolutionised the British workplace in the early twentieth century, the wall-mounted Archivists lamp is a scaled-down plug-in, an unobtrusive lamp suitable for a bedside or over a small desktop. Fully articulated, it swivels left to right, up and down, inwards and outwards. The shade is stitched with waxed cotton thread, and casts a cloudy luminosity that mimics calf’s skin, but will not yellow with time like natural vellum. The lamp is made from spun and turned raw brass, which is unpolished and unlacquered, desirable for its warm tone and oxidised patination. It has already started ageing naturally and gracefully. Simply wipe clean (do not use brass cleaner or polish) to maintain the ageing process.
